What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants refer to small, titanium posts that are surgically placed beneath a patient’s gumline, directly into the jawbone. This allows them to serve as replacement tooth roots, which can then support a custom-made dental restoration placed on top. The posts are able to fuse with the bone tissue, forming a strong and natural bond that facilitates chewing and prevents the bone loss associated with missing teeth.

The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

  • Initial Dental Implant Consultation
The first step in your dental implant journey is a consultation with Dr. Ishaya and our team. We’ll make sure you have the required jawbone density and oral health needed for the implant posts.
  • Dental Implant Surgery
We can complete the dental implant process here at our office, meaning you won’t need to coordinate with other teams at other locations. Anywhere from one to four or so implant posts can be used, depending on the extent of your tooth loss.
  • Dental Implant Osseointegration/Abutment
After the surgery, your implant posts will need several months to fuse with your jaw tissue, which ensures their stability. Abutments, or connector pieces, are also attached to the posts after they heal, which hold the replacement teeth in place.
  • Delivery of Dental Implant Restoration(s)
Since dental implants can replace any number of missing teeth, your custom-made restoration will come in the form of a crown, bridge, or a type of denture. Once it’s attached to the posts, your smile will be good-as-new!

Benefits of Dental Implants

When you pick dental implants, you aren’t just restoring the gaps in your smile; you’re also unlocking a wide range of life-changing benefits. These include:

  • Dental implants prevent the bone resorption of the jaw that occurs following tooth loss.
  • Patients enjoy restored biting power with dental implants, meaning a varied diet is possible.
  • Dental implants do not require any specialized maintenance or hygiene products.
  • With the right care, dental implants can last for multiple decades, or even a lifetime.
